To report someone you need two things, their Steam ID and a demo of their actions. To do this you need console access. While you are in game press the tilde "~" key to pull up the console.
Getting the Steam ID:
- Press "~" to access the console.
- In the console type "status". This will list the Steam ID's for every player currently on the server. Select the Steam ID list and press CTRL-C to copy it to the clipboard.
- When you exit the game or switch to Windows, you can then paste the Steam ID list into the forums/bann manangement section and highlight the hacker.
Getting the Demo:
- Press "M" or your key bind for selecting teams and select Spectate.
- Click your Left mouse button to change the player you are spec'ing. If you pass them, just click your Right mouse button to go backwards.
- Press the "~" to access the console
- In the console type record <NAME>. This will start a recording named whatever you put in for <NAME>. EX. "record demo"
- Press ESC to go back to specing the hacker.
- If the hacker dies then you will need to re-selected them in the next round if you haven't gotten enough evidence yet.
- To stop the recording press "~" and in the console type "stop".
The more rounds you can capture in the demo the better. Getting 3 to 5 rounds will generally show if someone is hacking or not. Demos also capture chat messages for racists and recruiters.
Playing the Demo:
- Press the "~" to access the console
- In the console type playdemo. A list of demos you've recorded will appear.
- Select the one you want play and press ENTER.
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\<yoursteamname>\counter-strike source\cstrike
OR
(For 64Bit Windows)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\<yoursteamname>\counter-strike source\cstrike
Once you have the SteamID and Demo, you can post the report to the BwA Ban Management Web Application and offer the demo as evidence. If you captured the evidence and the hacker posts in the Been Banned section, jump in and make your case. If you are asked to post a demo by a site admin, they will tell you how and where to post it.
In the heat of battle it is easy to get frustrated and think someone is hacking. Taking a break and specing people can do as much to dis-prove hacking as it does to prove it. If you take the time to spec, SteamID and demo people, the server will be better protected and you might learn something.
