Three men had a shared ambition to create a community that succeeded where they felt others had failed. Not knowing what was to come, they took a leap of faith. That leap of faith is now know as -=BwA=- Better with Age Gaming!
January 10th marked the 1st Anniversary of -=BwA=-. On behalf of those three men, we wish to thank each and every one of you that has helped to make the dream a reality! As you look at this post, you will see images of the past year. I hope to see many more years like this one!

An L4D2 plugin has been installed on L4D2-PrivateServer #5 to enable 10 v 10 versus. Want to help test the plugin? Join Ventrilo around 8:00 PM EST tonight. It may take some time to work the bugs out, but the benefit should be well worth the wait! See Mike3D's post in the forums for details on how to connect to the server. And yes, with 10 survivors, they're going to need more zombies.

Wait a minute . . . two weeks after infection? Zoey? Bill? Could it be an L4D1 weekend? Yes! Often requested and recently rumored, the upcoming weekend event will include retro Left 4 Dead 1 versus matches running all night long. Show up Friday and Saturday evening, 8:00 PM EST until close to party like it's January of 2009. Instead of being bummed out about that spitter goo that ruined your best suit, join us for a relaxing evening of exploration through an urban setting culminating in the survival event voted Most Exciting Escape From a Hospital Rooftop by Helicopter During A Zombie Apocalpyse. As always, a multitude of L4D servers will be hosted on our dedicated workstation located in Atlanta.

Form up in Ventrilo tonight and party up. Try and be online by 9pm EST.
Drop Dead time: 7:00 AM
Bio breaks and beer runs are highly encouraged between maps and games.
To be in contention for the title of SOLE SURVIVOR the following parameters will apply.
You are online and playing L4D2 in a BwA group NLT 11 PM EST.
You play L4D2 continuously until you cannot play anymore. (reasonable bio, smoke and beer breaks permitted)
@ 7am, if there contest is still running, the remaining players will be offered the option to SHARE the title.
If there is not a unanimous decision to end the contest, it goes until ONE player remains......
On a final note, Catalyst has donated an Electronic gift card for NewEgg.com in the amount of $50.00 for the -=BwA=- member that kills the most CHARGERS during tonights event. The tracking for this will begin at midnight and will continue until the last person drops or 7am, which ever comes first! This will be EST timezone. Once the totals are in from HLStatsX tomorrow, he will send the gift card via e-mail and will be available for your immediate use!

If you hang out around the forums it's no secret that there were several highly anticipated games released this fall. Many BwA'ers have developed a passionate gun lust on the Borderlands in the world of Pandora. We've had a blast all around with Gearbox's masterpiece. If you are interested in 4 person co-op give us a shout! Modern Warfare 2 has claimed a few souls recently as well. Most importantly, however, Left 4 Dead 2 unlocks on 11/17. We are putting up six (or more) servers immediately and looking forward to hours of zombie slaughter goodness next week! Want to join us? Hit our forums or steam group. We will be pulling all the stops for an official all nighter on Friday 11/20. There may even be prizes for the most zombie kills, the last person up, etc.. The night is young and FatalReality orders two more. Moving clockwise, Evil_Ernie, Tank Lewis (back of head only), DailyLlama, DracheFeuer's wife, DracheFeuer, Twiek (beard, cap), Entropy.
Before I delve into how the gathering was, I would first like to explain what BwA is. At it's core, it is a group of mature individuals looking for not only a nice place to play online games without having to endure the antics of immature people and kids who have no restraint on using foul language, but to also form lasting friendships. A majority of our members are in their late 20's to 30's but there are also quite a few over 40 as well (me included!). We are located all over the United States, West Coast to East Coast, North and South. We even have a few members from Canada and one even in Aruba.
The quote above comes from Charlie Utter and is a fairly eloquent description of our community, Better with Age. A few months ago Charlie began probing the waters, so to speak, and looking for any interest in a social gathering in propria persona. He found it! The result of a significant amount of time and talent dedicated to the challenge took shape this past Friday night in the sports lounge of the Maxwell Millenium Hotel in Nashville, TN. Folks from across the Southeastern and Midwestern portions of the United States began trickling in at 1:30 PM building to a final count of 19 members (+ 3 wives) before the evening ended in the wee hours of Saturday morning. Surreal is the only way to describe that first face-to-face meeting of folks that you have spent hours upon hours with gaming, strategizing, planning, laughing, yelling, and building friendships over the course of years.
Some particularly memorable moments include Twiek breaking out the -=BwA=- emblem to cheers and applauds, Jambi and T00l taking a dip in the hotel pool - fully clothed, and buttery-nipple shots for everyone after a bit too much had already been consumed all around. A few antics aside there was mostly non-stop conversation and laughter. Everyone experienced an awkward moment or two, but those were gone after the first round of introductions. Most of us went into that first night not knowing what to expect but finished it having had the time of our lives with 20 close friends.

Wow . . . just wow. The Better With Age gathering in Nashville, TN, was a unique and awesome experience. Thanks to meticulous planning and support from several members the weekend went off without a hitch. July has been a busy month in the ranks! First and foremost two rounds of the 'Fun in the Sun' Counter-Strike Source tournement have been completed. Each round consists of both a traditional "Pub" map as well as a second GunGame style round. Congratulations to the early winners and remember the top 4 make make playoffs where the playing field is leveled, so don't get down or give up yet if your team hasn't had much success. In other news, BwA is participating in the Club Conflict tournament. There is a mandetory meeting for members that would like to join the team on Sunday 7/26 at 9:00 pm EST. See the forums, Coldshot, or Acc for more information. In short, be prepared to dedicate a couple of days a week to practicing CAL/CEVO style CS:S match play in you are interested.
On the L4D side we've begun adding custom maps to our servers. In order to avoid map overload each new map undergoes rigorous testing by BwA members on a private server. Only the top tier, highest quality maps are loaded onto any of our 8 public L4D servers. Please keep in mind that new maps in L4D are handled very differently from CS:S or TF2 and require action on your part before you can play them! You must install the new maps on your own! At this time three maps have made the cut for our public servers. The first is the Death Aboard campaign version 6.0. The second is the Raccoon City Police Department Resident Evil map. Finally we've recently added Back To School.
For the last few weeks we've been enjoying the L4D Unrest mod on one our public servers. Think 4 on 4 versus matches are intense? Try 8 on 8!!! In addition to doubling the number of players on each team Unrest significanlty boosts the attacking power of the special infected.
